The Three Zones: How Classical Face Reading Divides A Life

Classical Mian Xiang divides the face into three horizontal zones. The upper zone runs from hairline to brow and governs thought and early life. The middle runs brow to nose base and governs ambition and the middle years. The lower runs nose base to chin and governs will, appetite and later life.

A face where one zone dominates is read as a life weighted toward that domain: a tall forehead as a mind-first life, a heavy jaw as a will-first one, an expansive mid-face as a life of ambition and social motion.

The interesting part is that modern models, given no knowledge of this tradition, tend to segment faces along almost identical lines — because those are the boundaries where bone structure genuinely changes. The framework survived because it described something real, even if the fortune-telling attached to it did not.

Use it as a compositional tool. When you read your own report, ask which zone your face emphasises, then ask honestly whether your life currently matches it.
